Photographs and documents do not last forever! They can be lost or fall victim to folds, tears, mould or just plain fading with age at any time. Scanning them and saving them as a digital file preserves them forever in a highly compact and electronically-transferable form. You can share your photos with family and friends, view them on your computer or TV, and keep backup copies in a safe place. We carefully dust original prints, negatives, or transparencies (slides) using compressed air, scan them into our computers, optimize brightness and contrast, and save them all in JPEG (.jpg), TIFF (.tif), or other format.
This service does not include the components of a complete image restoration like color correction, blemish removal, etc. (See the Photo Restoration page for details of these services). We normally scan 35mm or smaller slides and negatives at 1800dpi or 3600dpi. For 35mm, this produces files about 1600x2400 pixels or 3200x4800 pixels and 2MB or 4MB size when saved as JPEG files, 12MB or 24MB as TIFF files. Larger 2 1/4" transparencies are scanned at 1600dpi, producing a 3MB JPEG or 16MB TIFF file. Prints up to 8x10" are scanned at 300dpi. Larger prints can be re-photographed using a digital camera. Contact us if you have other requirements, such as lower or higher resolutions. |
