Q. Who owns the
copyright to a licensed photo?
A. Boss Photographic holds the copyright to all photos shown on this website and
reserves all rights to use, reproduce, distribute, license or sell these images.
Q. What is the difference
between rights-managed (RM) and royalty-free (RF) photos?
A. Royalty free photos allow you to pay a fixed price for a photo and use it any
way you like. Rights managed photos are priced according to factors such as the
photo size, the duration and type of use, and the distribution of the photo.
When you license a rights managed photo, you purchase the right to use that
photo in a specific way for a specific period of time.
Q. Why is it necessary to
quote licensing prices and how are prices determined?
A. The cost of licensing a photo depends on numerous factors, including the
photo size, print run, and duration of use. Our pricing is determined by photo
industry standards.
Q. How are licensed photos
distributed?
A. Photos are usually distributed electronically in high quality JPEG format
(compression level 10 or higher) but can also be provided in TIFF format and on
CD or DVD. The ID#, title, description, copyright info, and our contact info are
embedded in the file.
Q. Can I use licensed files
to make photo prints for myself?
A. No, we do not license our stock photos for the purpose of making prints for
home or office decor, only for editorial and advertising purposes. Prints of all
photos in our collection can be ordered directly from us using the shopping cart
(see Printing FAQ for more details).
